MISSION STATEMENT
The St. Irene Council of Catholic Women acts through its membership to support, empower and educate all
Catholic Women in spirituality, leadership and service. Its programs respond with Gospel values to the needs of the
Church and society in the modern world.



This organization shall be known as the St. Irene Council of Catholic Women, affiliated with the Joliet Diocesan
Council of Catholic Women (JDCCW) and the National Council of Catholic Women (NCCW)
.



The objectives of this organization shall be:

Section 1.  To serve as a medium through which the Catholic women of the parish may speak and act, as a unit, on
all matters of public interest.

Section 2. To stimulate the work of Catholic women to greater efficiency and usefulness to meet the needs of the
times.

Section 3.  To establish relations with other civic and social agencies in the endeavor to create interest in and to
aid in the solution of present day religious, civic, social and educational problems.

Section 4.  To assist in any activities requested by the Pastor and/or Moderator.



Section 1.  Membership in the council shall be open to all Catholic women registered in the parish.

Section 2.  A member in good standing is a member who pays her dues.  Any member in good standing shall have
the right to vote, to partic
ipate in meetings and to hold office in the council.



The council shall be under the guidance of the Pastor and/or Moderator.  The Pastor and/or Moderator
shall be the spiritual director and shall hold precedence over all officers and members of the council at
meetings.



Section 1. The officers shall be President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.

Section 2. The President shall preside at all meetings of the council. She shall see that NCCW, JDCCW
and DEANERY materials are available to all members.

Section 3. The Vice President shall assist the President and in the temporary absence of the President,
shall assume the duties of the President.  If the office of President becomes vacant, the Vice President
shall serve the unexpired term as President.

Section 4. The Secretary shall keep minutes of all council meetings and shall have charge of all papers
pertaining to her office.  She shall provide a copy of the previous minutes to be stored in the Moderator’s
office in the Parish Center.  Copies of the previous minutes shall be made available at all meetings.

Section 5. The Treasurer shall be the custodian of all funds of the council, shall deposit all monies in its
bank account, post and keep a record of all dues and monies, and submit a financial report and bank
statement to the officers monthly, or when requested by the President.  The bank account shall be held
in the name of the St. Irene Council of Catholic Women with signing privileges for the Treasurer,
President, Moderator and Pastor.  The bank statements must be mailed to the Church.  When a
checkbook has been used up, it must be turned in to the Moderator.

Section 6. At the end of each year, an audit of the books of the Treasurer will be done by at least two
members in good standing.

Section 7. Each officer and commissioner shall, within 30 days after the expiration of her term of office,
turn over to her successor all books, papers, and other property pertaining to her office.



Section 1.  Church Communities Commission:  This commission is the backbone of the organization. Its
goal is the spiritualization of the parish community.  Unity is built through prayer.  A Mass shall be
offered annually for all the deceased women of the parish.

Section 2.  Family Concerns Commission:  This commission assists families in achieving a Christian life
and helps to preserve Christian principles in those areas that pertain to the welfare of all families.

Section 3.  Community Concerns Commission:  This commission provides direction for women who want
to help with putting the social doctrine of the Church into effective practice within their own community.

Section 4.  International Concerns Commission:  This commission awakens in all Christians the
responsibility for the poor and needy throughout the world. It also works for peace.

Section 5.  Legislation Commission:  This commission helps persons and groups be more politically
effective by having them understand the legislative process, making sure they are registered to vote,
and having them understand the issues on which they are voting – local, state, national.

Section 6.  Organization Services Commission:  This commission covers a wide range of activities.  It
has all the odds and ends – leadership development, membership, hospitality, publicity and any other
necessary services.  It assists the officers and other commissioners.

Section 7.  Moderator:  The Moderator ties the whole organization together. It is the Moderator who
tries to inspire, to motivate and especially to give spiritual guidance to all the activities of the CCW.



Section 1. All officers shall be elected for a term of two years.  No individual shall hold the same office
for more than two consecutive terms.

Section 2. The President, with the approval of the Pastor and/or Moderator, shall fill a vacancy in an
office as soon as possible after the vacancy occurs.  In the event a vacancy occurs in the office of the
President, the Vice President will fill the vacancy.

Section 3. The immediate past President shall serve as an ex-officio member for a term of one year.
She will not have voting privileges.



Section 1.  Regular meetings shall be held on the third Tuesday of each month except December, June,
July and August.

Section 2.  The regular meeting may be changed, and special meetings called, at the discretion of the
President.



The fiscal year shall begin June 1 and end May 31 the following year.



Section 1.  Requests for nominations shall be published in the parish bulletin during the month of              
March at least two times.

a. During odd years the President, Vice President, Treasurer, Family Concerns Commissioner and
Organization Services Commissioner, Prayer Shawl, Elizabeth Ministry, Historian, Service       
Commission positions are elected.

b. During even years the Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, Web Secretary, Church Communities
Commissioner, Community Concerns Commissioner, Legislation Commissioner and International
Concerns Commissioner positions are elected.

Section 2.  The election of officers shall be held during the month of April.

a. In the event there is more than one nominee for any office, voting will be by ballot.
b. When there is only one candidate for an office, voting will be dispensed with for that office.
c. If no one comes forward to run for an office, the President shall appoint a member in good standing to
the office, with the approval of the Pastor and/or Moderator.

Section 3.  The elected officers shall be announced at the May meeting and be published in the bulletin.



Upon dissolution of this organization all of its assets remaining after payment of all costs and expense of
such dissolution shall be distributed to St. Irene Parish which has qualified for exemption under Section
501c of the Internal Revenue Code and none of the assets will be distributed to any member or officer
of this organization.



These bylaws may be amended at any meeting of the council by a two-thirds vote of the members in
good standing present at the meeting, provided the proposed amendment has been approved by the
Pastor and/or Moderator and the officers and has been introduced at a previous meeting.
